Who it’s for
The FLYBIRD WB5 is for the beginner who wants one bench that does everything without spending much. It presses flat, tilts to incline for shoulder and upper-chest work, folds away when you’re done, and carries a real safety certification — all for around the price of a single month of a commercial gym. If you’re building an upper-body gym around adjustable dumbbells, this is the natural bench to pair with them.
The specs that matter
The number that counts is the ASTM certification to 800 lb. ASTM is an independent standards body, so that rating has been tested to a published spec rather than simply claimed on the box — the closest thing to an objective safety signal at this price, and the reason we rank the WB5 as high as we do. On top of that you get multiple back and seat angles for flat and incline work, and a fold-flat design that stores against a wall.
Where it falls short
The honest trade-offs are minor. The pad is firm — perfectly fine, but not the plush feel of a commercial bench. There are no extraslike a leg-developer attachment. And like any folding bench, there’s a small gap between the seat and back pad that heavier lifters occasionally notice. For the price and purpose, none of these are dealbreakers.
How it compares
If you want to spend even less, the YOLEO bench keeps the ASTM rating for under $80 (with a narrower pad and fewer positions). If you want a sturdier, plusher bench and know you’ll stick with it, the REP AB-3100 is the step up. And if you plan to barbell press heavy, the FLYBIRD WB7 adds a 1,300 lb rating and a wider frame. We line all of them up in best adjustable benches.
The verdict
The FLYBIRD WB5 hits the sweet spot of price, safety certification, and versatility that most beginners want from a first bench. It’s the bench in our $1,000 Build for exactly that reason. Spend less only if the budget is tight, more only if you specifically want a plusher pad or a higher capacity — for the middle of the road, this is the one.
